November of 2016, we spoke with the coach and some members of DC’s Southeast Tarheels. At that time, they had just received a wild card bid to compete at the American Youth Football National Championships in Orlando, Florida. The proble? They had no idea how they would get there; but they were determined.

Through diligent fundraising, and the collective dedication of coaches and parents, the team made it to Florida, competed, and won. As promised, founder, Timothy Phillips, returned to the Radio One studios with the championship trophy in hand. He joins Denise Hill to discuss their championship win, the impact on the players and community, and the future of the Southeast Tarheels
